Club History:

The first official Lincoln Rugby Football Club was formed in 1882, with H.C. Wilson as Chairman. At the time Lincoln were seemingly the only club in the county, so arranged fixtures over in Yorkshire to get matches. Due to the difficulties in finance and arranging matches, the club only lasted two or three years. The club reformed a few years later, this time with D.M. Bell as Chairman. A purple braided cap dated 1899 1900 with the letters LRFC and bearing the Imp Logo is evidence that the Club was certainly going strong at that time.

Lincoln moved to the Lindum in the 1920’s. The club now has four senior teams, colts (under 19), as well as an occasional veterans XV. Lincoln also has junior rugby teams at under-17, under-16, under-15, under-14, and under-13 level. But it doesn’t stop there; they also have mini rugby teams at under-12, under-11, under-10, under-9, under-8, and under-7 level.

The First XV play in Midlands Three East (North) against teams from Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire, as well as local rivals Grimsby, Spalding and Sleaford. Adam Whitwell has now taken over as Club and First XV Captain, with Dave Cooper still in charge as Head Coach.

The club are approaching 600 playing members, a figure they believe gives them the largest playing membership of any sports club in the Lincoln area. The club’s colours are green shorts with red, white and bottle green shirts, with the Lincoln Imp on the left breast, and red socks.
