Hello all,

Leigh Curtis and Mark Whiley will be answering your questions on Friday, July 4. There has been plenty of transfer activity at Lincoln this summer, with six signings - Stefan Oakes, Janos Kovacs, David Graham, Frank Sinclair, Rob Burch and Aaron Brown - so far.

You can ask our experts about anything Lincoln City-related, but if you want to ask them about Lincolnshire cricket or local sport, feel free to do so.

All posts will be moderated for foul and abusive language.

Thanks,

Sam Parker.

Hi Guys

In your opinion who is the best signing so far this summer for the imps? In addition, and in light of the signings made, do you think the current wave of optimism of a season ending in at least the play offs, is justified? Or are we putting to much pressure on a team that struggled last season?

Cheers

Mark and Leigh,

Salsa Imp has a question:

Have you been surprised at the signings? if so which one primarily?

Now then, will Janos Kovacs 'BREAK' defenders next season?

I was excited about the signing, but even more now he's got a wise head like Frank Sincalir next to him I'm really, really, really, excited - which leads me to the second question. Has Peter Jackson got the balance right in age and experience in his squad?

Conspiracy theory here now lads.

Last season, no teams could be bothered to strengthen their team knowing that MK Dons and Peterborough had splashed so much cash it was almost pointless going for it?

This season, it is wide open, have the men in charge of their respective clubs been more willing to open their creaking wallets this season?

Thoughts?

Do you feel Jacko is done in the transfer market, or will an extra striker be brought in?

Also, after a good amount of season tickets already sold - is it possible for the Echo to have 'rallying' cry towards the Lincoln public nearer the new season - 'Your team, your City' ethic - and is it possible if Lincoln are successful to be attracting 5000+ gates?

Hi Leigh and Mark.
When you work at a newspaper and build up a relationship with people at the football club, you must sometimes have little off the record chats with the manager or players. With that in mind, there must be a name or two of strikers who could be on their way to Sincil Bank you could throw at us.
We won't tell anyone!

Hi Leigh and Mark - what's it like dealing with Jacko? Is it true you have to call him the gaffer in front of the players?

Does the Echo really need to do a rally cry? Is it in a position to do that? I don't want a biased newspaper. I want quality coverage.

Leigh, Mark, does Jacko and the boys mind tough questions? How have you found their dealings with them?

Hello Jonathan and thanks for your question

The best signing in my view is Stefan Oakes. I nearly fell off my chair when I heard the Imps had signed him. I've always rated him as a quality player.
I had serious doubts that City had the clout to attract quality players, but this has largely been dispelled now.
I also think Rob Burch will turn out to be a quality signing. He's not played many games, but I'm sure he can fill Mazza's shoes.

Hi John,

I've been impressed by all the signings so far, but the one that I think really captures the imagination is David Graham. Admittedly, his career has taken a bit of a downward spiral, but form is temporary, class is permanent.

I don't think there is any question there is fantastic player in there waiting to be reborn and having spoken to ex-team-mates and journalists about his ability, there is a general consensus that he should not be playing at this level.

This should be a wake-up call for him and what a fantastic opportunity he has to get his career back on track. I really can't wait to see him in action, because if he does start to fire on all cylinders, Lincoln have an unbelievable player on their books.

As for your comment about the play-offs and whether we are expecting to much, I don't think we are. If you listen to the manager about his plans for next season, he's made it crystal clear that he wants to be in the top three.

With the signings he has made, inevitably the expectation levels will rise, but the squad can handle it. If you look at the players he has brought in, Oakes, Graham and Sinclair in particular, they have all have experience of what it takes to be successful.

We saw how strongly Lincoln finished the season and with the new additions I certainly believe the Imps can finally get out of the division.

Hi Salsa Imp

I have been surprised by about half the signings so far, Sinclair, Oakes and Kovacs mainly, particualrly Oakes. A great signing in my view. Can't wait to see him bending those free-kicks into the top corner.

Now then EssexImp

There no doubt that big Jan will be able to look after himself, but I expect big Frank Sinclair to do the majority of the "breaking". He'll take no prisoners!
As for your second question, yes think there is a good balance between age and experience. Oakes and Sinclair are the older heads. But remember the young ones - the likes of Freck, Green, Beevers - have played a lot of games too. There's no shortage of experience.

Hi Salsa,

The biggest surprise for me was Stefan Oakes. There were a lot of clubs chasing him including Oldham in League One. Knowing what a good player he is, you never really expected that Lincoln would have any chance of signing him.

But the ambition and the vision of the club that Peter Jackson has obviously had an effect. By all accounts, he was texting Stefan all the time and was like a "dog with a bone" in his pursuit. I think that makes a big difference to a player.

I think he'll be an excellent acquisition and making that his first addition was a masterstroke really.

Hi WestsideImp.

I do enjoy a good conspiracy theory, but I'm not sure about that one. Yes, last season the big spenders did do well, but that hasn't always been the case. Look at Darlington. They've had money to burn yet they're still lumbered in League Two.
I reckon clubs spend the same regardless of who's in the division.

Hi Essex,

The problem that I had with the squad last season was that it didn't have enough players of the age that they should be coming into their prime.

For instance, we had the youngsters like Danny Hone, then at the other end of the scale, we had the oldies like Gary Croft.

Now, we have Aaron Brown (2, Janos Kovacs (22), Stefan Oakes (29), David Graham (29) and Rob Burch (24). Frank Sinclair adds the experience at 36.

When you add that together you can see we have the youth, we have players in their prime like Oakes, and we also have experience in Sinclair. To me that's a perfect blend.

Good afternoon Mr Bee

I'm sure Jacko is not done yet. I think he wants another striker. Remember he said he wanted seven new signings and that was before Jamie Forrester left. There's been six so far, so maybe we might see another two before the start of the season.
I'd like to see a wideman man brought in myself.
Watch this space.

As for a rally cry, I think we do a good job of that already. The vast majority of our stories are extremely positive and I'm sure we'll be continuing that (and even stepping it up) before the start of the season to reflect the huge optimism of the supporters.

Hi Westside,

The board has often stood accused of lacking ambition, but I think they can now see the benefits of when you start to open your wallet that little bit further.

With the signings they have made so far, and the quality they are, it's had an undoubted effect on season ticket sales. You speculate to accumulate.

But, yes you are right, it would have been pointless going for it last season when you've got MK Dons and Peterborough in the league.

Hello Redimp23

It's great dealing with Jacko, there's never a dull moment. He didn't like it when I called him "Jacko" on the phone once, so it's Peter or gaffer from now on!
