wk 16 6 Dec

Without doubt the match of the day sees Heckington United entertain old adversaries Ivy Tavern CSA. While these two lock horns the top two have what look much easier fixtures with leaders Plough Skellingthorpe at bottom side Harby and second placed AFC Victory at second to bottom side BBH. Fifth placed Cherry Knights also look to have an easy match as they host an out of sorts Horncastle Town. Fulbeck United, in sixth, entertain tenth placed Metheringham and eighth placed AFC Rustons United take on fellow city side Ruston Sports Reserves (11th).

Ivy Tavern visit Heckington looking to achieve something they have failed to do since April 2003; that is to beat Heckington on their own ground. On that occasion they won 3-2 with goals from Glyn Yates(2) and Paul Adebisi.  To date Ivy have only played three away games, winning only one and drawing one. Heckington are presently unbeaten at home in six games, having scored 22 and conceded only one. One has to ask whether Ivy want the win that much because should they lose they could be eleven points off the lead. Victory would put them back in the race and into third place, just six points behind, with a game in hand on Plough and two in hand over Victory. Realistically it is a must win game for both sides. Plough's last visit to Harby saw them win 4-1 but they have played them twice since then, both last season, when they ran in twenty goals without reply. Harby have not scored in their last six games (540 minutes) and conceded 36 goals. Unless we believe in Santa one has to suspect another heavy defeat for the bottom side. AFC Victory visit BBH looking for a league double having won their home encounter 6-0. BBH have not won a league game in six games and although they only lost 2-0 to Plough last week this game also looks an odds on  "away" win. The fast climbing Cherry Knights, now in the dizzy heights of fifth place, take on Horncastle Town.  For Cherry it is their fifth home game in a row (4 in the league) and they unbeaten in their last three. Horncastle on the other hand have picked up just one point (at Harby) in their last four games. One has to believe Cherry will retain fifth place after Saturday's game. Sixth place Fulbeck United who play Metheringham have won two and drawn one of their previous home games while their opponents have collected just one away point in five games. The last meeting of these two sides was at the end of last season when Fulbeck won 7-1 and although it is not suggested it will be a similar score line one has to believe Fulbeck could take the points again. Finally in the only city derby games FC Rustons United take on Ruston Sports Reserves. After a sticky start United have lost only twice in their last seven games while on the other hand Sports have won only once in the same period.  Sports did however complete a league double over United last season but on present form one must feel United will come out on top on this occasion.

wK 15 - 29 Nov

On the last weekend of November, every side in the league is scheduled to be in league action. After their victory over nearest rivals Heckington United last week, leaders Plough Skellingthorpe play host to thirteenth placed BBH. BBH will be on a high after registering their first home win last week but Plough have a 100% record which one would suspect will still be intact after this game. Second placed AFC Victory travel the short distance to FC Rustons United.  Rustons are unbeaten at home since August while Victory have lost their last two away games (league and cup). Third placed Heckington United, after surrendering their 100% record last week, visit Horncastle Town who are in the doldrums themselves at the moment without a win in four games. Fourth placed Ivy Tavern CSA, with a 100% home record host another side who are short of form in Ruston Sports Reserves. Sports have won only once in their last five. Fifth placed Fulbeck United visit Market Rasen Town. The village side have lost only once in the league in their last six games while Rasen's only home win came in their last home match against BBH. Sixth placed Waddington United visit seventh placed Cherry Knight. Cherry have won four of their last five with Waddington having won three and lost two over the same period. Finally eleventh placed Metheringham, without a win in nine entertain Harby who are still looking for their first win and also a first goal since 11th October, six games ago.

Wk 14 - 22 Nov PREVIEW OF GAMES FOR 22 NOV

Six sides take part in round one ties in the Sleaford Quality Foods Ltd sponsored David Cooper Cup this weekend.  Five others sides have already received byes into the next round, namely Fulbeck Utd, FC Rustons Utd, Mkt Rasen Town, RMSC Ath. Ruston Sports Res. The three ties taking place see the two new clubs in the league, BBH and Waddington United, both competing for the first occasion. BBH host Horncastle Town who went out at the first hurdle last season to the eventual winners AFC Victory. Neither BBH nor Horncastle are in a rich vein of form with BBH without a win since September (8 games ago while Horncastle have not won in three games with their last victory being over BBH with a 2-1 victory a month ago. For Waddington United they visit Harby who picked up their first point in four games last week. Waddington lost for only the fourth time last week but it was some defeat, going down 7-1 to Plough Skellingthorpe. The third game sees Cherry Knight play Metheringham. Cherry go into the game as favourites having already beaten their visitors 6-1 in a league game less than a month ago.

There are four scheduled league games taking place with no doubt, the pick of them being between the only two sides left with 100% league records, namely Plough Skellingthorpe and Heckington Utd. These two share top place in the table on the same points and same goal difference with Plough having scored two more goals and Heckington having conceded two less. This weekend something will have to give! Heckington failed to beat Plough on three occasions last season in Plough's championship season. Third placed AFC Victory and fourth placed Ivy Tavern CSA will be watching this result closely as they also play one another with Ivy visiting the Vic'.  Victory are unbeaten at home while Ivy have lost just once away from home.   Should Victory win and the top of the table clash end all square they would go back to the top on goal difference. A win for Ivy would place them level on points with the Vic' with a game in hand. The third game is not as high profile but should FC Rustons Utd complete a league double over their visitors Market Rasen Town, they will climb into the top five, above Waddington, on goal difference. Ruston's have lost only once in their last five while Rasen have the reverse, winning only one in five. The final game  is between eighth place Fulbeck United and eleventh placed Ruston Sports Reserves. Fulbeck have lost their last two games but beat Rustons 3-0 just the matter of a month ago. Rustons are yet to win away from home although they won for the first time in five games last week with a 4-2 victory over Horncastle Town.

Lincs Junior Cup last week it is back to league business this week. Six games are scheduled with leaders AFC Victory looking to get back to winning ways after suffering back to back defeats. They host Metheringham (12th) who picked up their first away point last week in their 3-3 draw with BBH.   Second placed Heckington United visit seventh placed Fulbeck United with both sides having lost for the first occasion last week, as they exited the Lincs Junior Cup. Surprisingly Heckington are playing their first away game of the season. Plough Skellingthorpe in third position visit fifth placed Waddington United. The home side have a 100% home record while Plough are also in a similar position on their travels. Fourth placed Ivy Tavern CSA, whose away record is no where as good as at home, visit second to bottom side BBH who picked up their first home point last weekend.  Eighth placed Cherry Knights who lost their first home game last week have Market Rasen Town (9th)  as their visitors.  Rasen have won their last three away games. Finally bottom side Harby, who have not score in over 270 minutes of football take on Horncastle Town (10th) who have not won in three away games.

The Draw was made for the next round of the Lincs Junior Cup and it was less than friendly to our two surviving teams as they both have away trips. Waddington United have to await the outcome of the game between AS Motors OB and Harvest Pet Products but what ever the outcome they will be going to the "seaside" as both sides are from Cleethorpes and in the Grimsby League. Harvest are unbeaten and second in the top flight while AS Motors are near the bottom of Division Two. For Market Rasen they have a trip to Barrowby from the Grantham League, the side who knocked Fulbeck United out in the last round. They are presently bottom of the Grantham First Division. Skegness Town, who beat Heckington Utd host Scunthorpe side Mallard or East Lincs Combination side Grainthorpe United while Swineshead Institute, who beat Plough Skellingthorpe, meet Scunthorpe League side Limestone Rangers. Perhaps to top tie is between two previous winners as Moulton Harrox host AFC Brumby but should both sides win their postponed games, there is the potential tie between Lincs League side Louth United and Louth Town from the Central Midlands League.

preview of weekend games

This weekend our six remaining sides, still in the Lincs Junior Cup, battle it out for a place in round three. Three have home ties and three are away with one game bringing together two sides from our own league. There are also four league games due to take place including one which could take Ivy Tavern CSA to the top of the table should they beat their opponents by more than five clear goals.

In the Lincs Junior Cup, on paper, Fulbeck United have what looks the best chance of going through to the next round. They visit Grantham League side Barrowby United who are presently bottom of their Premier League but this season their only win has been in the previous round of this competition. One of our sides will definitely be in round three as Waddington United host fellow league side AFC Victory. Waddington are presently showing some inconsistency, winning one week and losing the next. Their opponents Victory on the other hand have lost only one in ten games and that came in their last game at Plough Skellingthorpe where they failed to score for the first time. Two of our sides have tough Lincs League opposition to face. Heckington saw off one Lincs League side Hykeham Town in the last round and now face reigning champions Skegness Town. Heckington will be without their influential manager on the bye-line to encourage them as Terry Smith is off to Miami. They are however unbeaten in all competition going into this game while Skegness, who are presently 2nd in their league have, lost their last two games, with defeat against Boston Town Reserves last week in a cup tie and in the league against Louth Utd the previous week. Market Rasen Town have an equally tough games as they visit Ruston Sports who are presently placed 3rd in the Lincs League. Rustons are unbeaten in the league with their only defeat to date, a cup exit, at the hands of Lincoln United Reserves.  If these ties are not tough enough, Plough Skellingthorpe too have a tasty tie as they host Boston League side Swineshead Institute. Swineshead are twice past winners of the trophy back in the late 80's, early 90's and although presently third in the Boston League, like Skellingthorpe, they are unbeaten in all competitions this season.

In the league, the top three are all in cup action which gives Ivy Tavern CSA the opportunity to leapfrog two if not three of these sides should they overcome a struggling RMSC Athletic side. Ivy have a 100% home record while RMSC are still seeking a first away win. Last season Ivy completed a comprehensive league double over RMSC with 5-0 and 4-0 wins. Also taking place is a mid table clash at Cherry Knights who take on FC Rustons United. Cherry are eighth just one point behind seventh placed Rustons. They have already met and beaten their opponents in the Lincs Junior Cup and have recently found form scoring 12 goals in their last two games with their in-from striker, Paul Nicholson bagging seven of these. Rustons themselves have also found form with only one defeat (at Plough) in their last five. Further down the table, ninth placed Horncastle Town, visit twelfth place Ruston Sports Reserves. Horncastle have only lost once in their last three games with Rustons without a win in their last four. Finally second to bottom side BBH entertain eleventh placed Metheringham. Both these sides are without a win in their last six games with BBH still looking for a home win since returning to the league and Metheringham seeking a first away win.

1st Nov preview

As we move into the winter months a full league programme is scheduled for the weekend. The days top game is without doubt taking place at Monson Park where reigning champions and presently second placed Plough Skellingthorpe take on league leaders AFC Victory. Third placed Heckington United are again at home as they entertain eleventh placed Ruston Sports Reserves. fourth placed Waddington United visit RMSC Athletic (Thirteenth). Ivy Tavern CSA, in fourth place, host bottom side Harby. Seventh and eighth placed sides Fulbeck United and Horncastle meet at Fulbeck. Ninth placed Cherry Knights visit Metheringham, one place below them and twelfth placed Market Rasen Town play guests to fourteenth placed BBH.

Leaders AFC Victory, with three straight away wins and just one goal conceded while scoring 14, could find their visit to Skellingthorpe their toughest game of the season. The reigning champions have a 100% record and have netted sixteen goals at home conceding only two. Another side with a 100% record are Heckington, who have played six home games, scoring 19 goals and conceding only 2. Their opponents Ruston Sports Reserves are yet to win away from home in five games and have netted only six goals, conceding 17.  Waddington United make a first visit to RMSC Athletic with two wins and two defeats from their five away games played and have scored and conceded 12 goals. Their hosts RMSC have a similar home record winning one and losing one of just two home games played with five goals for and four against.  Ivy Tavern have a 100% home record with four wins and eighteen goals (6 against) before taking on Harby who have the opposite; four straight defeats with only four goals for and 22 against. Horncastle who visit Fulbeck have won just one away game so far in five played (6 goals for 13 against). Their opponents have also won only one home game from three with seven goals for and three against.  Similarly Cherry Knights have won two of their four away games (6 goals for 10 against) with their hosts Metheringham having won two and drawn one of four games netting 12 goals and conceding five. Finally Market Rasen Town play host to BBH looking for their first home win with just a draw in four games and only three goals scored with eleven conceded.  Their visitors BBH have won one away game  at Harby from four matches played, netting five but conceding 14.
