Further relegation and promotion issues were decided but some will go down to the last weekend of the season. In the Premier League Cherry Willingham hit the weekend’s highest score against Blankney as they emphasised why they are again champions. Lindum moved into second place with two wins over the weekend, one against Scothern and the other at Market Rasen. Morton totally annihilated Hartsholme, who were bowled out for the lowest Premier total of the season. Also, after one defeat, Scothern then went on to beat In Division One the second promotion place is still up for grabs with Middle Rasen holding this position but Nettleham have one game left to overhaul them. The only game in this league saw Winthorpe well beaten by Saxilby who finish fourth in the table. In Division Two Waddington beat Fulbeck and now are favourites for the title, being just one point behind present leaders BBH with one game to play. Defeat for Fulbeck sees them relegated as previously relegation threatened Branston collected another win, this time against Aisthorpe. In Division Three, Heighington moved into second place as they completed their season with victory over Nocton. They can however be overhauled by Owmby who inflicted a heavy defeat over wooden-spoonists Millers, who were bowled out for the lowest score of the weekend and the third lowest in the leagues this season. In the Saturday League Saxilby 2nd collected the win which saw them crowned champions ahead of Morton 2nd. They beat Timberland who are assured of third place. In the Premier League it was runs galore for champions Cherry Willingham who amassed 243-6 against Blankney with three players getting half centuries, namely Andy Johnson (62), Lee Coupland (53) and James Drabble (51). Blankney were never in the chase although Lee Allman hit a fifty and Dave Pearse 40 not out in their 135-7. Graham Priestley had figures of 4-17 for Cherry. Lindum who now look favourites to finish runners-up picked up two wins over the weekend. Firstly they inflicted a three wicket defeat on Scothern on Saturday. Scothern were bowled out for 150 with Richard Johnson making 50 not out and then John Gratrick hit 77 not out to give Lindum victory. Then on Sunday, Lindum travelled to second to bottom side Market Rasen and won by 30 runs. They set a total of 141-9 with Pierce Morley-Barnes top scoring with 64 before Rasen were bolwed out for 111. With one game left Morton 1st look as if they will finish third after a big win over Hartsholme. The In Division One Saxilby closed their season with an easy win at Winthorpe. Mark Edwards made 65 not out as Saxilby posted a total of 147 and then Taylor with 4-24 and Green 4-32 bowled Winthorpe out for just 59. In Division Two Fulbeck became the second side to be relegated as they were beaten by title favourites Waddington. Fulbeck were bowled out for 115 with Billy Evans taking 4-31 and C. Over 3-18. Top scorer for Fulbeck was opener John Cross who made 46. Evans then showed his batting skills with 54 not out as he steered Waddington to a six wicket victory. Carholme ensured themselves of third place as the beat Nettleham. Here Nettleham were bowled out for 81 before Carholme won by just one wicket. Also in this division Branston ensured their safety with victory over relegated Aisthorpe. Aisthorpe’s opener Mike Reynolds was again in the runs for his winless side, making 58 of their total of 119. G. Tinsley then hit 71 as Branston won by three wickets. In Division Three the second promotion position is still in the balance. Heighington beat Nocton to move into second place as they closed their season. Heighington were restricted to only 93 themselves by their guests with Liam Hargrave top scorer with 28. The wickets were shared by Nocton with Pete Franklin the pick, taking 3-41. Nocton in reply were then bowled out for just 44 with Dave Franklin, not for the first time, their top scorer with 22. Ralph Slaney returned figures of 6-2-7-4 and Richard Bradley 5-2-5-3 for Heighington. Victory for Owmby over Millers gave them the chance to steal the second promotion place should they win their final game next weekend against Heckington. To set up this exciting finish they blew bottom side Ruskington Millers away, hitting 192-8 and then bowled them out for just 25 to win by the biggest margin of the day, 167 runs. Finally in the Saturday League Saxilby picked up the necessary points to become champions as they beat Timberland by 35 runs. Saxilby made 194 with Mark Edwards again in the runs with 68 while R. Week 22 13/14 September What a weekend that was with the top sides in the first three divisions all losing. In the Premier League, despite losing for the first occasion this season, Cherry Willingham became champions for the fourth year in a row. The last side that had any chance of overhauling them, Scothern lost to second place Martin while the only other game in this league saw second to bottom side Market Rasen thrash Blankney, who registered the weekends lowest score. In Division One Boston 1st, are assured of promotion and all but champions. They, however, surprisingly lost to Washingborough. Second placed Nettleham missed the chance of substantially closing the gap on the leaders as their game at bottom side Winthorpe was called off due to an unfit wicket. This allowed Middle Rasen, who were closing their programme, to go second after completing the biggest win of the day against Old Lincolnians. In Division Two BBH collected sufficient points to be promoted even though they lost to Nettleham 2nd in what was their final game. This match saw Nettleham’s teenager Tom Dalton show he is a true all-rounder as he collected the best bowling figures of the weekend. Bardney who had completed their games, as expected slipped down the table as Waddington took their place, following victory over bottom side Aisthorpe. With two games left they can still claim the title but promotion now looks virtually assured. Hykeham ended their campaign with victory over their nearest rivals Carholme but the city team could still go above them with a game left. In the final game in this division it was one of survival with Branston beating Fulbeck to swap places with them and push them into the second relegation slot. In Division Three In the Saturday League Saxilby won at Washingborough and are now virtually assured of the title as they are only four points behind leaders Morton, with a game left. The final game saw Timberland lose to Reepham in a low scoring game. In the Premier League Cherry Willingham only needed five points to be assured of the title but on visiting mid table Lindum they got a bit of a shock. As expected wickets were a little damp and scores were low. Lindum made 147-8 with the highest scores coming from opener Pierce Morley-Barnes, who made 36 and Harry Dunn (34). Cherry’s best bowlers were Joe Dobson with 3-30 and Graham Priestley 3-36. When Cherry batted they were always in trouble going from 40-1 to 50-6. They made a bit of a rally as James Drabble made 30 and Joe Dobson (22) but at the close they were still 29 runs short of their target with the last pair at the wicket. Ben Morrison with 3-19 was the pick of the Lindum bowlers who became the first side to beat the four times champions this season. Needing victory to keep any hopes of a top two finish, Scothern hosted second placed Martin, who had surprised a lot of people this season. In their previous meeting Martin had lost by just one run but they went one better this time in another close finish. Batting first Martin looked to be struggling at 27-5 but knocks of 39 from Ryan Simpkins and 47 not out from Dave Gollop saw them close on 134-9. Darren Turner collected 4-34 for the home side. Scothern in reply, also found it hard going and lost wickets on a regular basis. They were eventually undone by Dave Newman who came on to bowl and in 1.3 overs took 3-5 to see Scothern bowled out for 128, just six runs short of the target. Top scorer for Scothern was Aaron Onyon with 27 while James Drabble, who was last to go, went for 19. Morton retained third place as they were gifted maximum points by bottom side In Division One Boston are all but champions and can only be caught mathematically. This is due to the fact they failed to pick up the win against Washingborough, which would have seen them crowned champions. Washingborough batted first with Mark Willey making 37 and Ryan Hubbard 27 not out in a total of 127-9. Scott Elleray took 4-37 for the home side. When In Division Two BBH were another top side to lose at a crucial time, although they did collect enough points to be assured of promotion. They hosted mid table Nettleham 2nd and restricted them to 130-7 with the top scorer being Andy Lewis with 38. Then it all went wrong for the leaders as Nettleham’s 15 year old “all-rounder” Tom Dalton returned the days best bowling figures of 10-5-14-7 (the fourth best of the season) as BBH were left hanging on at 91-9. The top scorer for the home side was veteran Kevin Spence who came in at number 8 and ended with 32 not out. Waddington continued their late surge for the second promotion place and possibly the title as they beat bottom side Aisthorpe. Aisthorpe were bowled out for 79 and then Paul Ainsworth made 53 not out as Waddington won by 6 wickets. This leaves Waddington 21 points behind BBH with two games left to become champions. Closing their programme were Hykeham who beat Carholme by 4 wickets. Here Carholme made 86 with Don Inkpen making 29 and M. Leverett recording figures of 10-3-11-3 for Hykeham. Darren Chester made 36 and Chris Hammond 20 as Hykeham edged home. Sam Toofany took 3-15 for Carholme who have one game left which could still see them go second if Waddington get it wrong in their remaining games. In the remaining game it was all about avoiding the drop. Second to bottom side Branston visited Fulbeck who were one place above them. Fulbeck batted first making 106-8 in a reduced overs game. Top scorer was John Cross who carried his bat with 48 not out while Mike Fairweather took 5-33 for Branston. The visitors lost six wickets before Josh Flint (35 not out) and Pete Flint (8 not out) saw them home with a stand of 45. K. Panchal picked up 5-34 for Fulbeck who slipped into the second relegation place and now look favourites to go down with Aisthorpe as Branston have one game more than them to safeguard their place. In Division Three Boston are runaway champions and have now completed their programme. This was following the sharing of the points with In the Saturday League Saxilby but for a total calamity in their final game, are all but champions. In their penultimate game at Washingborough they won by 105 runs after setting their opponents a total of 189 to chase. D. Branston Week 21 6-7 Sept If we though last week was bad then we were kidding ourselves as the final month of this cricket season opened with just two games starting and one finishing out of 15 scheduled matches. Hoping to see several promotion and relegation issues decided, it was just about a case of “as you were” for the time being. Saying this though one can be assured that reigning champions Cherry Willingham can not finish out of the top two and they now only need one win from their remaining three games to be out of reach of everyone else. Only Scothern could catch them should they win their remaining games and Cherry lose theirs. In actual fact Cherry could be crowned champions if their remaining games were all called of as this too would see them uncatchable. Just one statistic which was not reported on last weekend was that Martin’s Dave Newman became the first player in the League to 500 runs in the season. In Division One Boston 1st are now assured of promotion after collecting 5 points for their cancelled game with Middle Rasen and can just about put the champions crown on. The second promotion slot is between Nettleham and Middle Rasen. At the other end, Winthorpe could still avoid being bottom with Bassingham and Old Lincolnians only one win above them while Winthorpe have two games more than them to play. In Division Two BBH are all but promoted with the second promotion place still down to any one of three or four sides. Second placed Bardney’s season came to an end with their game at Waddington abandoned after they had set the home side a target of 133 to chase. After 5 overs Waddington were 16-0. For Bardney Mark Conyers was again in the runs scoring 68 of his sides’ total. This took him to 465 runs for the season and second in this league’s averages, behind Waddington’s Andy Holmes, with an average of 42.27. At the bottom Aisthorpe have just two games left to pick up their first win of the season before being relegated. Who goes down with them is still an unknown quantity with second to bottom side Branston having a game in hand over the two sides immediately above them, Fulbeck and Nettleham 2nd. In the Saturday League, leaders Morton saw their season end in frustration at Reepham which has given Saxilby the opportunity to snatch the title. With two games left they are 24 points behind Morton so one win and one cancellation could see them crowned champions. None of the Premier League games were completed which left just the inactive league leaders Cherry Willingham gleeful as their rivals failed to substantially close the gap on their lead. In Division One Boston 1st scored the weekend’s highest score in beating Bassingham while their closest rival’s game at Middle Rasen between them and Nettleham ended at a timely point for the visitors. The game at Washingborough against Saxilby was less critical when it end. In Division Two the games involving the top sides were all lost to the weather with only Nettleham 2nd lower down the table picking up a win over Fulbeck to climb out of the relegation places thus demoting Branston to this position. In Division Three league leaders On Saturday Timberland pulled off a surprise to beat Morton in the final of the Saturday League Cup while Reepham beat Washingborough in the bottom of the table clash. As stated the only team with any joy from games in the Premier League was Cherry Willingham who were inactive. Closest rivals Martin had been set a target of 191-9 to chase at home to Lindum and were on 123-5 when their game ended. Seventeen year old Alex Hornsby had top scored with 58 for Lindum. One side to get away with their abandonment was Morton who looking to be on the edge of defeat at Market Rasen. Rasen had made 212-6 with opener Matt Rutherford 133 not out. Marton were then 53 runs behind with their last pair at the wicket. Third placed Hartsholme had posted a score of 219-6 at Scothern with their openers of Stuart Bell (56) and Matt Wooldridge (63) putting on 119 for the first wicket. When Scothern batted they were three down for 96 when the rains came. In the only other game the fact that In Division One Boston moved a step closer to promotion as they went on a run rampage against Bassingham. County Under 17 Jonathan Cheer hit 132 and shared a fifth wicket stand of 143 with Sam Gilding (60 not out) as they posted a score of 253-6. Gilding then continued with the ball as he took 6-26 as Bassingham were bowled out for 85 with Matt Harris top scorer with 23. Second placed Nettleham were rescued by the weather in their game against nearest rivals at Middle Rasen. Nettleham had been bowled out for 85 with opener Dave Lea seeing all his colleagues come and go and none make more than five runs. He was eventually stranded on 65 not out! Gary Bierlein was the man with the ball as he took 6-15 in ten overs. Rasen in reply were 66-2 off 22 overs when Nettleham were saved. The game at Washingborough between them and Saxilby closed with the visitors on 62-1 chasing 162-6 set by the home side. Mark Willey was again in the runs with 64 not out. In Division Two leaders BBH visited Carholme and had been bowled out for 80 when the game ended. Who would have been the happier here is difficult to say. Mark Conyers made 77 not out for second placed Bardney at Branston in their total of 138. The home side were then 23-1 at the close. Waddington would have been in a confident position when they hosted Hykeham. The visitors had made 108-5 in their reduced overs game while Waddington were on 75-2 when play was halted. The only side to see joy in this league was Nettleham 2nd who climbed out of a relegation position as they beat Fulbeck. Dave Cross made 63 in their total of 165-8 but then Chris Smith (54) and Ash Graham 59 not out saw Nettleham to a seven wicket victory. This result moved Nettleham level on points with Fulbeck, having played a game less while Branston slipped into a relegation position. In Division Three the result of the day was at Owmby who moved into third place after a 17 runs victory over promoted On Saturday both games reached conclusion with Reepham beating Washingborough by 7 wickets in their league game. Jonathan Wills took 5-21 as Washingborough were bowled out for 101. In the Saturday League Cup final at Washingborough Timberland pulled off a surprise as they beat favourites Morton by 26 runs. Timberland batted first making 184-4 with Liam Hargrave making an unbeaten 65. Morton in reply only had opener Steve Crooks make a decent total of 54 as they were bowled out for 162.
